The meaning of the Masks

When you are wearing a mask, what is your purpose?
Maybe it's to scare a friend. Maybe it's to have fun at a party.
But the real purpose is to hide your face. To be exact, make others think you're someone else.

A Persona is a character you put out for the world to see. The part of you that you want everyone else to see.

It's a kind of mask. It's to cover parts of you you don't think others will like.

In Persona 5, the characters rip off their masks to unleash their power.
This represents them not hiding anymore and showing their true form to the world, regardless of their defects.

Persona 4 puts more meaning to this. In the game, the characters, in the shadow world, need to face their own shadows, which is basically themselves, but the actual them. The one that has all of the defects the characters are trying to hide from the world.
To get their power, they need to face their shadow and accept that they are a part of them.

The colour of passion and freedom

As some of you, or many of you, may have noticed, Persona 5 uses a lot the colour red.
The reason being, it represents passion and freedom.

The main characters in the game are bounded by the rules of society untill they decide to rebel against everyone and stand up against, as they call them, "rotten adults"; those who have become corrupted and are blinded by their own distorted desires.

When they do manage to stand up against society, a bright red colour appears in their eyes. It is also the colour of the calling card they send to every target.

Red also represent the colour of revolution and how they are willing to spill blood to manage to make a change.
And finally, it also represents danger, to let their targets that nobody is safe from the Phantom Thieves and that everyone should watch their step and behaviour.

Origin of the name

"Phansite" is a mix of "fansite" and "phantom".

In the videogame, a character becomes a huge fan of the Phantom Thieves and he decides to create a website where people can comment and vote on different polls.

That's why he chose the name "Phansite" and it's another reason I chose the name for this blog, I just thought it was cool.

The Phansite

This blog was created as a fan site for the videogame Persona 5. A Roleplay game (RPG) for the PlayStation 4 (PS4).

Persona 5 takes place in modern-day Tokyo and follows the protagonist Joker following his transfer to Shujin Academy after being put on probation for an assault of which he was falsely accused. During the course of a school year, he and other students awaken to special powers, becoming a group of secret vigilantes known as the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. They explore the Metaverse, a supernatural realm born from humanity's subconscious desires, to steal malevolent intent from the hearts of adults. As with previous games in the series, the party battles enemies known as Shadows using physical manifestations of their psyche known as the Persona. The game incorporates role-playing and dungeon crawling elements alongside social simulation scenarios.

I chose this as the topic for my blog because it's one of my favourite videogames and I love the design, music, characters and story.
